Live Review
"Enigma" is the first experimental project of Xu Space in the New Year 2022. The team creators of "Enigma" are Cai Gong, Wang Jun and Wu Mingming. Performance by Yang Manru, Yang Rui, Raymond and Zhang Lizhi. "Enigma" combines spatial theatre and performance installation.
For the opening reception, apple juice and egg rolls were the result of the information in the letter.
Cai Gong did not talk about the origin and meaning of the one hundred and fifty images in the installation.When setting up the site, he had invited the site decorators to choose four colours to represent Chongqing, and finally decided on red, yellow and green, which are brighter than the mountain city on a foggy day.
The "Enigma" team had set up a very theatrical theatre space, with Wu Mingming's wearable installation and the text, all of which seemed to suggest that the site was a mimetic and fantastical spatial context.
At the end of the reception, the participants entered, four figures behind a large red curtain in front of them, talking about the truth of "fear", then four fantastically dressed people appeared behind the curtain, their fingers running over the curtain. The music starts and the bound limbs begin to release. The curtain slides down, there is a shout and the act ends. Participants enter the installation, each with a large silver torch in hand, searching the darkness for a sheet of clues that they are missing. The clues are displayed on grey cardboard, covered by photographs of identical looking apples and eggs.
If Cai Gong were to explain, he would probably still say "it's a secret", making it difficult to say whether his intention for this exhibition is a reflection of reality? Or is it an absurd response to an absurd reality? The participants find their own answers, just as Cai Gong says: "Enigma is the starting point".
「謎」是序空间在2022年新年之际开启的第一个实验项目。「謎」团队主创蔡工、王俊、吴明明。行为杨曼茹、杨芮、Raymond、张立志。「謎」糅合了空间剧场与行为装置。
开幕酒会，苹果汁和蛋卷是信件内资料的结果。
关于装置内一百五十张图片的来源与意义，蔡工没有谈及。在布置现场，他曾邀请现场布展人员选择四个代表重庆的颜色，最后决定选择比雾霾天的山城更鲜亮的红黄绿。
「謎」团队搭建了非常戏剧的剧场空间，吴明明的穿戴装置以及文字，这一切似乎都在提示这个现场是一个拟真拟幻的空间情景。
酒会结束后参与者入场，面前的红色大幕后四个人影，他们谈论着“恐惧”的真相，接着四个奇幻着装的人出现在幕布后，他们手指在幕布上划过。音乐起，被束缚的肢体开始释放。大幕滑落，一声惊呼，行为结束。参与者进入装置，每个人手拿着银色大电筒，在黑暗中寻找一张他们缺失的线索。这些线索陈列在灰色纸板上，被看起来完全一样的苹果与鸡蛋的照片覆盖着。
如果让蔡工来解释，他可能还是会说“这是秘密”，很难说清他关于此次展览现场意图，是现实一种折射？还是对荒诞现实的荒诞回应？参与者自行寻找答案，就像蔡工说的：“謎是起点”。
